To broaden Fiorita's impacts and to develop a sustainable wildflower supply chain, specific skills are needed. Floreat srl is the leader of the Erasmus Plus project "Floreat", with the Czech partner ABA International, aimed at improving the skills of agricultural workers, technicians in the supply chain and establishing exchanges of good practices within the European Union. The project - in the period 2023/2024 - has implemented several practical initiatives, such as professional courses, public awareness events and the development and publication of international guidelines, freely available, to spread good practices relating to wildflowers and develop a sustainable and aware supply chain.
The Guidelines
Enhancing biodiversity through Nature-based Solutions:
The use of wildflowers
To ensure a broader impact, the guidelines "Enhancing Biodiversity Through Natural-based Solutions. The Use of wildflowers" were developed, freely available in Italian and English.
The document provides technical, legislative and practical indications on the development of the wildflowers supply chain, their value in safeguarding and promoting biodiversity and as a Nature-based Solution.
Starting from the case study of Castelluccio di Norcia, a Natura 2000 area located in the Sibillini Mountains National Park, the guidelines address the main stages to be pursued, from the collection, selection and sorting of wild seeds, up to their ex-situ sowing. These procedures can be re-proposed, with possible adaptations, in other areas where a similar supply chain is to be started.
During the project, specific courses were organized, aimed at the various professional figures involved in the wildflowering supply chain. The aim of the courses was to develop new skills and raise awareness among the actors in the supply chain on the importance of the Fiorita heritage and the correct use of Fiorita seeds.
Only by seeing our heritage with different eyes and new skills, will we be able to enhance it more!
